Celebrating its 68th year, the stage is set for the 2024 Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod Performing Arts Festival. More than 800 entrants will be performing over 2700 acts across vocal, choral, instrumental, brass bands, piano, speech and drama, and theatrical dance.
The curtains open on Monday, 19th August at Gippsland Performing Arts Centre and the event will run until the last competition evening on 29th September at Kernot Hall.
According to Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod Public Relations Officer Sjaala Harbridge, “the event is not only a huge celebration of the arts but also an opportunity for performers of all ages and skill levels to gain valuable experience and feedback from judges. It’s an affordable grassroots and friendly competition that provides a platform for performers to develop their skills, grow their confidence, and connect with other individuals in the performing arts community”
Sjaala also mentioned that “Regional Eisteddfods are often the first public experience performers will have, and is an important introduction into the vast range of opportunities and life skills gained in the arts.”
Running since 1956, the Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod has certainly seen some amazing local talent go on to become renowned professionals in their fields. The dedicated Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod committee has worked many hours to ensure that the program of events can run smoothly over Latrobe Valley venues. This includes GPAC (Main Stage, Little Theatre, and Town Hall) for Music and Choral, and concluding at Kernot Hall in Morwell for the Theatrical Dance sections.
Volunteers are being called for, with many jobs to be filled during the event such as food kiosk sales, ticket sales, door monitors, and other roles.
